What to do if it rains on your wedding

You can probably relate: checking the weather every day in the run-up to your wedding? No one wants rain on their wedding day. So, what can you do when it’s all in the lap of the Gods?

If you’re worried about rain on your wedding day (who isn’t?), there are a few things you can do to prepare.

No matter whether you’re hosting a full-scale wedding or a minimony with friends in the garden, there are precautions you can take to prepare for rain.

For those getting married at any outdoor venue, you’ll need to have a plan B.

There are no two ways about it. If you include this in your planning up-front, you’ll be ready and open to it if it does eventuate. Plan B might consist of renting a large tent to protect your guests from the elements or asking your venue or wedding planner about their indoor back-up options.

If the backup options just aren’t to your liking, make the decision early in your planning process to switch to a venue that does have a desirable indoor option. It’s not worth the stress and anxiety if you have to go for a second-best option that just doesn’t make your heart sing.

To brave the showers, you’ll need to provide guests with umbrellas or ponchos to keep them dry. You might also want to have a hairdryer on standby and a change of shoes. Another essential item is a pack of kitchen towels or hand towels. Your bridal team can use them to wipe down outdoor surfaces if the rain has come and gone and left a few surface puddles on tables and chairs.

Above all else, embrace the fact that it could rain.

Be flexible and accept that rain is a possibility on any wedding day. If you stay positive and optimistic about whatever happens on the day, so will your guests, and that will come across in your wedding photography.

Our job as Gold Coast wedding photographers is to focus on the primary purpose of the day: to capture your love for one another amongst family and friends. And you never know, you might just discover you both love dancing in the rain!
