Defining our photography style at Feather & Finch Photography

Many people think we’re all about the “dark and moody” style in our photography. They see our photographs on Instagram and assume they must be our look. But that’s not the case. Read on to find out more about what defines our mode.

A photography style is a unique way of seeing things. It’s not just about the subject or our own personal photography preferences or how we process the photographs after the event. It’s the culmination of many deliberate choices. Equipment, subject and composition all play a part. Whether we shoot handheld or whether we use a tripod, whether we shoot spontaneously or whether we have a plan in advance. These all play a part in determining our style.

At Feather & Finch Photography, we are neither light and bright nor dark and moody in our style. We are wedding photographers who document your story based on the available light on the day. We provide our take on the surroundings, based on what presents itself. We ensure that the best use of available light is made so that the beauty of the day can be preserved in the images we take.

This type of photography is about natural light: sun, candles and ambient light. Yes, we use flash photography, but we also want to give you non-flash images, as we love the softer and more natural look it provides. Natural light photography is also a much more subtle and unobtrusive way of taking photographs, so it doesn’t need us to be in close proximity to the wedding party to get all the desired shots.

Taking the time to observe and make the best use of the available light on your wedding day can help to create stunning and timeless images that will be cherished for years to come.

Because we are all about telling the story of your day through photos, we love to capture moments, expressions and feelings on the day. We notice the details, whether it’s the tear rolling down your mother’s cheek, or the laughter from the best man’s speech – we capture those twinkles of time.

We can also capture the more traditional or classical posed images. We recognise that you’re going to want photos with your mum and dad or your best mates from school. Equally, we can produce more contemporary or artistic photos. These are likely the ones you see on our Instagram account. They might be taken with a relaxed pose but in a quirky spot, or the angle of the shot might be unusual. They can be striking and stunning.

Whatever images you’re after for your special day, we hope this clarifies what we, as Gold Coast wedding photographers, can provide.
