9 COVID wedding planning workarounds

Keeping yourself and your guests safe should be your top priority for your wedding day, and here’s what we’ve learnt about how to work around any government COVID restrictions. Whether it’s due to lockdowns, vaccination restrictions or caps on numbers, we still want you to have the best day possible.

1 - Talk to your venue and other suppliers about workarounds.

Government guidance isn’t always up-to-date or crystal clear. Wedding venues often have a difficult job interpreting the restrictions. What that means is that the “rules” can vary between venues. Talk to your venue and other suppliers about what’s possible on the day and ask them if there are any workarounds. Please respect the venue’s answer, whatever it is. Their job is to keep you, your guests and their staff safe, and it’s not an easy task sometimes!

2- Vaccination status workaround.

You’ve got an eclectic mix of friends and family, and that means a range of views on whether to get vaccinated or not. No matter what their opinions, they’re still your friends, and you still want them at your wedding, right? So go for an all-inclusive event at a non-wedding restricted venue, like an AirBnB or private home. Then you can do all the legal paperwork on the previous day with a smaller number of guests. Remember to check your state for all requirements.

3 - Re-label and repurpose.

You’ll need to keep an open mind during these strange (now normal!) times. You could choose to have a “commitment ceremony”. This isn’t officially a wedding, so the usual wedding restrictions don’t apply. You could do the legal part of marriage the day before with a select few loved ones (within the restricted number allowance) and then have more flexibility with numbers and location for your commitment ceremony.
