Guide to choosing the right wedding planner

When you are planning your wedding, hiring a wedding planner is one of the first (and perhaps most important) decisions you’ll make during the process of planning your wedding. Here are our tips to help with your selection

Determine your budget and your needs

It might sound obvious but knowing how much you’ve got to play with is the crucial first step to finding the right wedding planner. Get clear on how much help you’ll need, as this will determine the price. Often wedding planners offer set packages, so get clear on what you’ll need and want.

Know your strengths and weaknesses

Because your wedding planner will be one of the leading players on this most important of days, you’ll want to be able to rely on whoever you choose to pull off a really incredible day. That person will need to play to your weaknesses so that everything is covered. If décor isn’t your thing, you’ll need someone who can pick that up, for example.

Consider your wedding style

If you’ve got a particular theme or vibe for your wedding, you’ll need to make sure your wedding planner has organised similarly themed marriages. Your chosen wedding planner should be inextricably on the same page as you, so that everything you want to portray on your wedding day is carried out.

Research, research, research

Be sure to scour the internet and social media for the gems among the rough. You can read reviews and compare prices before you draw up your shortlist. Friends and family members will also have recommendations and suggestions. They’ll be able to give you real-life feedback on what it was like to work with their planner.

Meet with potential planners.

Once you have narrowed down your choices, meet with each planner to see if they are a good fit for you. You’ll be spending a lot of time with your planner, so make sure you have shared values and a good sense of cohesion between you all.
