Should you hire a videographer for your wedding?
Should you hire a videographer for your wedding? Why I think that's a big YES!
You may be wondering if I have hired a photographer do I need a videographer too? I mean, isn't it just another cost that's not necessary. It's true, you don't NEED a videographer, but at the same time, there's a lot of excellent reasons to say yes to creating a beautiful movie of your magical day.
Your wedding photographs will create priceless mementoes of your wedding, but there are some things that still shots don't capture. A professional well-edited video will bring back the sights, sounds and emotions in a different way. Imagine being able to sit with your children, or perhaps your bridesmaids and groomsmen, and watch your first dance on your 20th anniversary!
Great reasons to go for video:
A memory jogger - A wedding is a big deal, and you'll be excited, and a bit stressed. It's a heady mix, and you might find that afterwards, your big day is a bit of a blur. A video is a great way to make sure you can relive the special moments and catch up on the candid bits you missed.
The speeches – One of the big moments of a wedding is the formal part of the evening with the toasts and speeches. Often, a parent's speech (or the best man's) is a real highlight, but within a few weeks, the detail of what they said can fade. Kind words from loved ones are moments you'll want to relive over and over.
Absent friends – There will always be someone who can't make it to your wedding, and particularly at the moment, there could be travel restrictions that mean VIP's can't be there. Being able to share a video of the day is the next best thing for guests who can't attend.
Sights and sounds – We think and remember with all of our senses, and because video captures movement and sound, it can evoke a whole different emotional response. Who wouldn't want to relive the crash of the waves at your island wedding or the song you handpicked together to walk down the aisle?
Quality – Some of you will remember grainy Handycam footage of an aunty and uncle's wedding and the pain of sitting through the unedited footage. The beauty of video now is that the quality is so good, and editing can turn the raw footage into a compelling story that hits all the right notes. Be sure to view your videographer's previous work to make sure they produce a quality of work that you'll treasure.
So, while it may not be a must-have for you, I would recommend thinking seriously about bringing a videographer into the mix for your wedding. And, if you're confused about where to start looking to find someone, ask your photographer for a recommendation.
