Timings for the ceremony

In our experience, a civil ceremony usually takes about 30 minutes, and a church service can be anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the service. We recommend you lock this time in first and then work forwards and backward from there with your planning.

Timings for the photos

If you’re doing group ‘celebratory’ photos immediately after the ceremony, it’s a good idea to allow about 30 minutes for these. Assuming you’re staying at the same venue to do your bridal party photos (including sunset photos), consider allocating these around sunset time. For example if sunset is scheduled for 5:30pm we would suggest ensuring between 4:45pm-5:45pm is free time with no formalities as lighting plays a very important role in imagery.

Timings for eating

Allow about an hour to and hour and a half, but this depends on what arrangements you have made for feeding your guests. Talk to your venue and caterer about the best way to run things here.

Timings for speeches

“How long is a piece of string!” the old saying goes. You know your speech-givers better than anyone else, so remember to allow a bit of wiggle room here. Typically, speeches are around 30 minutes, but they can go longer if there are plenty of laughs along the way! In our experience, less is more – so we recommend briefing your speech-givers to make their words punchy and fun. As a guide, three to four minutes for each speech.

So all that’s left for you to do is start creating and remember to share your run sheet with all your key vendors and suppliers. Yes, it might seem like a bit of work upfront, but the peace of mind it will provide is invaluable.
