Wedding Traditions That Aren’t So Traditional Anymore

Wedding Traditions That Aren’t So Traditional Anymore

Every weekend I am blessed to be introduced to so many unique and wonderful ways to celebrate marriage. Whether it be a new take on your first thought wedding gown, or the humours entrance song for the bride and groom, I have certainly come to learn that nothing is out of the ordinary and our initial thoughts on ‘wedding traditions’ just aren’t so traditional anymore.

Same same, but different.

It is becoming increasingly popular to host the best party of all, all under the same roof! No need to transport guests or worry about killing time while the bride and groom dazzle in front of the camera. Couples are taking in all the surroundings and perks of their incredibly stunning venue and using different locations throughout to celebrate their ceremony and reception – clever, I know!

Where’s the cake?

Everyone loves a little sweet at the end of the night, but not everyone is a fan of the traditional black forest fruit cake layered in three-inch white icing, don’t get me wrong I am always up for it, but there are few new crowd pleasers on the block and we certainly won’t be saying no-thankyou to any of these goodies. All hail the doughnut stands, lolly tables, pancake bars, cupcakes, cheese platters and chocolate fondue fountains!

Truck-in, its dinner time!

Food vans are the ultimate guilty pleasure and they are hitting the wedding scene hard with incredible varieties and good looking wheels alike. From coffees and dessert kombi’s, right through to portable tacos and tequila bars, there is a food van to suit every foodie’s dreams and desires. Catering for an open outdoor style of wedding, these have proven to be a hit time and time again with countless compliments on taste, smell and adding a whole lot of flavour to that festival style atmosphere!

First dance

Ah, your first dance as husband and wife. Traditionally, we watch on to beautiful heart felt moments between lovers as they dance into each other’s arms while the rest of us are in complete awe. Yes, this is still a tradition flying quite high, but you would be surprised at the amount of times it slips under the radar incomplete, whether it is intentional or everyone was just having too much fun with the beats on the dancefloor, the first dance, always known to be the dance floor starter, has this tradition been secretly diminishing!? Or maybe it’s making new room for the choreographed Broadway shows!? Either way, we still think it is a must have tradition – and makes for incredible captures!

Summer Lovin’

Oh, the joys of choosing a date that all your favourite vendors have free – do not stress! Winter weddings are totally a thing! Summer weddings are always a favourite but the traditional sunshine, beach (which we totally adore) are now on par with other seasons in snow-capped hills and autumn fallen forests – ah the colours, a Gold Coast photographer’s epitome of perfection!

So, you have a little quirk, a little out of the ordinary? Bring it on. That’s the best part, breaking the boundaries and making your own traditions based on your unique state of love.
