Choosing your ‘getting ready’ wedding day location

Your getting-ready location will make all the difference for those intimate pre-wedding photographs. Check out our tips and ideas for selecting where to get ready on your wedding day morning.

Whether it’s at your actual wedding venue or a local hotel or AirBnB, you’ll want to get clear on your getting ready location as soon as you can. There are certain features that will help give your photographs that real pop!

Natural light, hands down

Photographing the bride in natural, soft, bright light makes a world of difference. Look for hotels and locations with big, open windows and minimal drapery. Windows and light curtains diffuse the direct sunlight and allow us to shoot awesome images.

Bright interiors

Dark walls aren’t the best when it comes to reflecting the natural light, so you’ll be needing a lot of artificial lighting if your getting ready location is moody and dark. So, where possible, find a room with pale or white interiors.

Room for everyone

In an ideal world, you’ll need a couple of bathrooms and plenty of space to set up a hair and makeup area. You don’t want to be crowded, so look for a spacious room or space. Depending on your personality, you may want a quiet space reserved just for you.

All close by

To get the best images of both of you – separately – you’ll need to be in relatively close proximity. Wedding venues often have adjacent rooms and boudoirs for couples to get ready in. Depending on your location, it might be worth one of you getting ready at home and the other being at the venue.

Unique to you

Above all else, the getting ready location needs to reflect your personality and style. After all, the photographs we take here will be most beautiful when they represent the real you. Feel good about your getting ready location, and the photographs will dazzle in your beauty.
